Olga Neuwirth has won the 2022 Grawemeyer Award for her opera Orlando.

It is over 22 years ago that Bählamms Fest (The Feast of the Lambs) celebrated its premiere as a commission from the Vienna Festival. With great effort, the electronics have been adapted to today’s possibilities and requirements, making Bählamms Fest playable once again.

Great works cast a shadow ahead – which in this case, due to the pandemic, has become quite long: The Musikfest Berlin 2021 finally sees a number of long-awaited world premieres featuring Heiner Goebbels, Olga Neuwirth, Enno Poppe and Lisa Streich.

Olga Neuwirth will receive the Robert Schumann Prize for Poetry and Music 2020.

On 8 December, Olga Neuwirth’s Orlando received its world premiere at the Wiener Staatsoper, becoming the first opera composed by a woman in 150 years to have been commissioned and staged at the illustrious Austrian house.

The Stage Is Not Enough – Spatial Sounds

On the occasion of her 50th birthday, two large projects by Olga Neuwirth were premiered in November at the Vienna Konzerthaus in the framework of Wien Modern: Die Stadt ohne Juden (The City without Jews), a new film score for the recently restored silent movie by H. K. Breslauer, as well as a revised version of Neuwirth’s musicstallation-theatre piece The Outcast.

Olga Neuwirth’s music for Die Stadt ohne Juden was premiered by the PHACE ensemble under the direction of Nacho de Paz in a live performance accompanying a screening of the classic film in the main auditorium of the Vienna Konzerthaus.
